We are excited to offer four FREE SEMINARS for parents. Two will be held at our Brentwood location in Maryland Farms and two will be held at our Green Hills location on 21st Avenue near 440 West. For: Parents of elementary and middle school students who struggle to read or have dyslexia

If your child struggles to read, is newly diagnosed with dyslexia (or displays tendencies of dyslexia), this free seminar will be both enlightening and filled with practical takeaways. Designed for parents of elementary and middle school students and presented by Vanessa Adams, Director of Educational Assessment at The Learning Lab, the seminar will focus on ways to support reading development at home, while at the same time fostering a love for language and literature. Other topics include survival skills for completing homework and supporting your child’s self-esteem when school is tough.

With first-hand knowledge and experience derived from her time as a college administrator and faculty member, Adrienne will paint a clear picture of all that it takes to select and be admitted to college in this day and age. From identifying a list of potential colleges, ACT Prep and college visits, to applications, essay writing and making the final choice, the process should start earlier

“Have you studied for your test?” you ask. “How well do you know it?” you say. You’ve repeated these questions seemingly hundreds of times. What if you were confident that your child had learned and could apply good study skills? You just might not have to ever ask again. In this free seminar, Maurie Ponder, Assistant Director of The Learning Lab, discusses how study skills are integral to a student’s success and how these skills can be learned. Topics to be covered include strategies for effectively taking notes, organizing study materials, studying for tests, and planning for large, long-term projects.

For: Parents of middle schoolers and teenagers diagnosed with ADHD

When your child is diagnosed with ADHD, it impacts not only the child but the entire family. Families often struggle to support and nurture the child while also caring appropriately for themselves. In this free seminar, Vanessa Adams, Director of Educational Assessment at The Learning Lab, will discuss behavioral boundaries and expectations parents of a teen with ADHD should have of their child. Topics will include tips for successful household rules and routines, with a focus on how parents can be proactive, intentional, and thoughtful in their approach to setting realistic and reasonable boundaries for the teen with ADHD.
