Summer Learning Schedule
High school students who want to get ahead, stay on track, or ease their course load can take any major high school course for credit at the Learning Lab. Our learning centers are fully accredited by AdvancED. Contact us or visit the Learning Lab nearest to you to request a specific course.
Please note that the number of hours listed below is a guideline reflecting the minimum contact hours required for credit to be earned. It is possible an individual student will need additional hours in order to complete a course, at an additional hourly cost. Homework & outside preparation for class will be expected as well.
Summer is the best time for a student to earn course credit when he or she needs a second chance to pass a required course. Because the Learning Lab/Gateway Academy program holds AdvancEd accreditation, courses taken and completed satisfactorily in Summer Learning are transferable to other schools.

For those enrolled in online courses or course recovery, and those who need some extra support, Learning Lab provides expert tutoring to help students understand the subject matter and related materials. Learning Lab tutors have successfully helped students with Keystone, Penn Foster, Florida Virtual School and A+ programs, as well as others.
Effective study skills can unlock your student's learning potential by teaching them how to study, prepare, and excel in any academic course at any level. Without the pressure of a full course load, summer is the best time to discover these strategies that can optimize your child's academic success for life. Learning Lab offers summer study skills toward the end of the summer semester to help students prepare for the new academic year.
Learning Lab presents this unique workshop that combines speedreading and typing skills using its own proprietary software. One of the most critically important skills of the computer age is the ability to work quickly and accurately on a keyboard. This is a requisite skill for all students at any level. Those who can read and type quickly and efficiently will have a distinct advantage over peers as they progress in their education.
Test scores often determine whether or not students earn acceptance to the school of their choice. Learning Lab's 10-hour Test Prep class can help you to increase your standardized test scores by teaching strategies for optimizing your time and improving your overall test performance. Our program uses actual ACT tests and is unique and proprietary to the Learning Lab; it has proven to enhance a student's scores. The materials and program for this class are available only at the Learning Lab.
This four-day program will be filled with fun activities that will help your child get a jump start on reading and math skills to ease them into their Kindergarten year. They will also be exposed to structured educational time, which will minimize any difficulty with the transition.
Managing School Stress combines study skills, course planning, nutrition, yoga, and mindfulness – including growth mindset skills, to help students reduce and manage school-related stress. Learning Lab offers this toward the end of the summer to prepare students for the coming academic year just before it begins.
Offered in one, two, or three sessions, this unique and highly specialized cognitive skills training camp is designed to help students sharpen thinking skills and strengthen individual learning ability. The strategies and exercises are implemented by mediators trained in Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment, a cognitive program proven to strengthen neural connections within the brain and offering benefits to students with learning differences, gifted students, and those in between.
Designed for students with unique peer relationship needs beyond the academic realm, Learning Lab's Team Building Workshop focuses on relationship building. This program is for students who have various needs beyond academics that require skills to communicate and work with others. Your child will receive tools, techniques and strategies for improving peer relationships. Each group workshop provides a collaborative peer environment that is both supportive and enriching for those with unique social and behavioral management needs. Each two-week workshop will include three to four students with similar needs and abilities attending group sessions.
Mathematics, unlike almost any other subject, relies upon a student's knowledge of basic skills, along with their ability to master concepts that build upon that foundation. For students of all ages it is critically important to remain at grade level; those who have not are likely to need a major recovery program, such as Math Intervention from the Learning Lab.
This intensive reading intervention designed for students who struggle with decoding, fluency, and/or phonemic awareness. Learning Lab uses the Wilson curriculum, which was designed for students with dyslexia or other diagnosed reading disabilities, but it's also very effective for undiagnosed students who struggle with the mechanics of reading. This curriculum has been proven to provide measurable results.
Summer tutoring at the Learning Lab will give your student an academic advantage when the new school year begins. It can offset summer knowledge loss, increase knowledge and provide skills and confidence for future studies. In the Learning Lab's personalized learning environment, our professional tutors work one-on- one with your child to overcome learning issues in any subject from grades K through 12, catch up in a challenging subject, or sharpen learning skills and test strategies for the future. Tutoring packages are available.
Our summer reading intervention and packages are individualized to suit the needs of the student. Typical areas of interest for students in improving reading skills include reading comprehension, reading speed, learning to enjoy reading, comprehension of subject area texts (science, social studies, etc.) and literary analysis, and more. Learning Lab's Summer Reading program can address any and all reading concerns that students may have.
Many students fail to retain Math skills and abilities during the summer. Our summer math intervention and packages are customized to each student based on his or her specific needs. Whether your student wants to get a jump start on their next Math course beginning in the fall, or if you need extra reinforcement of basic skills, we've got a specialized Math tutor who can help your student succeed.
In a nod to Nashville's cultural link to the music industry, Learning Lab presents this special camp for aspiring young songwriters. Students will receive a private lesson, as well as guidance from the teacher during the writing process. The camp will cover such critical elements as finding inspiration, structuring the writing process, writing techniques, melodies that move, and co-writing etiquette. Students will have the opportunity during the camp to write and record an original song. Sessions meet four times per week (Monday through Thursday) during each two-week camp.
