Learning Lab Assessment Process
We offer a wide variety of assessment services at Learning Lab. Our professional staff can help you determine which ones will answer your questions best.
While each child’s and parent’s needs are different, this is a general guideline on how our assessment process works. The process can be adjusted to meet your needs.
Parent Interview
The psychologist on the assessment team meets with parents on the first day to understand their concerns, the child’s developmental issues and the purpose for testing. This interview typically takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Parent and Teachers Questionnaires
Parents are given questionnaires to complete at home. These provide a more detailed description of the child’s history, strengths and challenges. This information enables the assessment team to rule out certain issues and clarify primary needs.
Parents are also given surveys and questionnaires for the child’s teacher(s) to complete. This is optional, but strongly recommended in order to provide feedback on the child’s classroom behavior and performance.
Testing
Typically, a full Psycho-educational Evaluation takes place in two separate days. However, shorter evaluations, such as ADHD and Educational Assessments, are completed in a single day. Assessments are usually conducted by the team psychologist and/or educational diagnostician.
Interpretation
Approximately two weeks after testing is completed and all parent and teacher questionnaires have been returned, the team psychologist has a face-to-face conference with parents to review test results and make recommendations. A comprehensive written report is part of this one-hour interpretation/feedback session.
Optional School Visit
Sometimes parents or the child’s school request an in-school meeting to review and discuss test results. The assessment team psychologist is typically the person who attends this meeting as the representative of Learning Lab.
Optional Child’s Conference
At the parent’s request and when appropriate, a brief follow-up session is conducted with the child to provide an understanding of their test results.
Professionally administered, HIPAA compliant
The Learning Lab assessment team is made up of professional psychologists, educational diagnosticians and speech and language therapists. These experts work together to help identify learning issues and to recommend corrective actions. Our goal is to provide written results and to consult with parents within two weeks after testing and questionnares are completed.
Learning Lab observes all HIPAA policies and standards to ensure the privacy of your child’s testing and results.
